Why we work the way we do
Search this industry and the first thing you find is warnings about it. Advertised sweeps at $49 that become four-figure invoices. Technicians showing homeowners photographs of somebody else’s cracked liner. Discounts that expire the moment the van leaves. It is common enough that consumer bureaus publish alerts about it every autumn.
The trade is also almost entirely unregulated — anyone can print a card that says chimney sweep. Which means the only real protection a homeowner has is documentation they can hold, compare and take to somebody else for a second opinion.
So that is what we built the company around. We inspect, we write down what we found, and then we quote. Never in the other order.
Built for Washington homes
This climate does specific things to chimneys, and they are not the things you read about on national websites. It is not the cold that takes a Puget Sound chimney apart — it is the rain, the moss, and a freeze-thaw cycle that runs dozens of times a winter. Crowns crack. Mortar washes out. Flashing separates. Water gets into masonry and stays there.
Add the housing stock — pre-war brick in Seattle and Tacoma, prefabricated chases in the Eastside suburbs, wood stoves toward the foothills — and the failures sort themselves by neighbourhood. Knowing which one you are standing in front of is most of the job.
Our approach
Inspect, explain, recommend, perform, protect. Always in that order — the order is the whole point, because every complaint this trade generates comes from somebody who quoted before step one.
Inspect
We look at the chimney before we have an opinion about it. Top, firebox and everything reachable in between.
Explain
We tell you what we found in words you can repeat to somebody else, because you may want a second opinion and you should be able to get one.
Recommend
What the chimney needs, what can wait until next year, and what does not need doing at all. That third category exists and we use it.
Perform
Once you have approved it, and not before. Floors covered, and the house left the way we found it.
Protect
You keep the written findings. Next year they are the baseline that shows whether anything actually moved.
